When Hyundai NZ approached us with the need for a reliable truck access step, the challenge was clear. Limited space ruled out a standard double step, but a single step would compromise safety. Our task was to design and manufacture a fold-out step that balanced form and function — sturdy, safe, and stylish. Through clever engineering and precise fabrication, we delivered a custom solution that not only met the brief but exceeded expectations.

The Challenge

The available space was too small for a double step, but a single step would have resulted in excessively high rises. I needed to find a way to make a double step fit.

The Solution

Using precise measurements from the truck, I designed a sliding and folding step for our 3D modelling software. The process allowed me to create a virtual model, test its operation, and optimise the design for our fibre laser and press brake, ensuring fast and efficient manufacturing. Welded brackets were mounted beneath the truck, allowing the step to be easily bolted on and hot-dipped galvanised for added durability.

The Result

The final product was a safe, sturdy, and easy-to-use access step. The client was impressed with its solid feel and smooth operation, exceeding their expectations. It gave them confidence in delivering the truck, knowing they had met their client’s requirements. We also had the opportunity to cut our logo into the design, making it easy for others to see where they could get one of these excellent steps!
